The parks staff took out a huge swath of the nature park on June 16, 2013
For too many years, the parks staff has recklessly abused the natural habitat in the Pan Handle section of the park. The former Parks supervisor even used the area for storing concrete blocks . Wood chip piles and brush was dumped like trash everywhere.
The level of care has improved somewhat since Shane DeMarta assumed management and an outside landscaping company has taken over some of the regular duties . The parks staff needs guidance with how to maintain a nature area. The above fiasco is only one example.
A clearly written "nature park" care plan should be written and adhered to. In time, the land will heal and the birds and other animals will return.
Here is a good place to start for our new nature park manual
