hot take: SB827 might be interpreted to mean you can start your own private bus service to get an upzoning
Seriously #yimbys, do you realize how such a strategy will backfire?
Yeah, I was penciling the numbers in my head earlier this week, trying to guess how much a one mile shuttle would cost to run.
Related issue: could a for-profit bus company like Chariot, for example, result in denser housing? (I lean towards no, as I think for-profit buses are much likelier to disappear, and they can be expensive.)
827 uses the CPUC definition of "transit stop", so thats up to them
Somebody brought this up to me but I can't find the convo now. It seems plausible!
we were discussing it a bit at last night's @eb4everyone meeting
There's a grand CA tradition of private entities building/operating transit in part as a loss leader on development! Maybe SB 827 can bring some of that back.
I'm confused. There is bus service (public and tech/charter) through places like Foster City but maps I see show it as untouched.
Wanna start a bus?
Wonder how long it will take for fixed-route autonomous shuttles to be available? Would make 10-15 minute service cheaper to provide @aceckhouse
The Atherton crosstown route is short enough I think you’d only need a handful of vehicles/drivers to get 10-15 min headways
Same would be true for a lot of routes on the Peninsula
If open to public why not!?
